How do your sheepskin boots compare to UGG and other big-name brands?
Both we and UGG use twinface sheepskin, but most UGG production has moved to China. Every Kiwi Sheepskins boot is made here in New Zealand by a Canterbury manufacturer who has specialised in sheepskin footwear for over 20 years. We use firmer skins for boot structure and the same plush wool pile (around 5/8 inch) on the inside. Because you're buying direct from the New Zealand exporter, our pricing is often around half what you'd pay for a comparable big-brand pair in the USA or UK.
Are sheepskin boots waterproof?
Not naturally, the suede outer absorbs water and can stain. Before first wear we strongly recommend two light coats of our Sheepskin Protector & Water Repellent spray. Treated boots cause water drops to bead off the suede rather than soak in, and protect against oily marks. Reapply after every clean.
How do I clean sheepskin boots without ruining the suede?
Hand wash only, never the machine. Use cool or lukewarm water (max 40C) with Woolskin Wool Wash, which is enzyme and bleach free. Wash separately to avoid colour bleed. After washing, blot excess water with paper towels, stuff the boots with more paper to hold their shape, and dry slowly away from direct sun or heat. Brush the wool gently when fully dry to restore the pile.
What's the difference between EVA, TPR side-stitched and hide soft soles?
EVA is light and used on our Classic and Kiwi House boot styles, good for indoor and light outdoor use. The chunky TPR side-stitched sole is on our Ultimate boots, strong, flexible, deep tread, suited to wet winter outdoor conditions, with a cattle hide toe cap and removable foam-backed sheepskin insoles. Hide soft soles are for indoor-only boots and slippers, giving the softest feel underfoot.
How do I choose between boot heights and check the calf fit?
Ankle boots cover just above the ankle, mid calf range from 15 to 24cm depending on style and size, full calf adds around 12.5cm more, and the Musketeer reaches knee height. Calf circumference and boot height both vary by shoe size, so every product page has a Footwear Sizing tab with specific measurements for that style and size. If the regular calf width is too narrow we also offer an extra wide calf version of our Ultimate Full Calf boot.
