Care for Sheepskin, the Way Nature Intended

Sheepskin is a remarkable natural material, prized for its breathability, resilience and ability to regulate temperature - but it performs best when cared for thoughtfully. Unlike synthetic fibres, the leather backing and wool pile respond to how they’re washed, dried and handled over time. Using gentle, enzyme-free products and avoiding heat helps protect the leather from becoming brittle, while maintaining the wool’s natural spring and softness.

Washing sheepskin doesn’t need to be complicated, but it does require care. Cold or lukewarm water, mild detergents and slow, natural drying are key principles across all sheepskin types. Airing sheepskin regularly can reduce the need for frequent washing, thanks to the lanolin naturally present in the wool, while light spot cleaning can address everyday marks without over-processing the hide. Brushing long-wool products while damp and again when dry helps restore their signature fluffy finish.

Different sheepskin products benefit from different sheepskin care approaches, which is why we offer specialised options. From wool washes and shampoos formulated specifically for sheepskin, to protectors for suede footwear and brushes for long-wool rugs and underlays, each product is designed to support a particular use — whether it’s caring for baby and medical sheepskins, refreshing rugs and car seat covers, or protecting slippers, gloves and mittens from moisture and staining. With the right care tools and gentle handling, sheepskin maintains its comfort, appearance and longevity, becoming something you can enjoy for many years to come.
