Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between your two medical sheepskin boot styles?
The open-style boot opens completely flat, the foot is placed on it and the front is folded over and secured with hook-and-loop fasteners. This style suits anyone whose ankle movement is severely restricted (post-surgery, casts, very limited range of motion). The enclosed style has a generous opening for swollen feet and a simple cord tie at the top to hold it in place. Both are made entirely from medical-grade sheepskin.
Who are medical sheepskin boots designed for?
People recovering from foot or ankle surgery, those with severely swollen feet (oedema), patients with neuropathy or diabetic foot issues, and anyone confined to a bed or wheelchair where heel and ankle pressure is a concern. They're also used for general warmth and comfort by elderly patients in aged care.
Do medical sheepskin boots help prevent heel pressure sores?
They're designed to. The soft, dense medical-grade wool cushions vulnerable heel and ankle areas, distributes pressure across a wider contact surface, and lets air circulate to keep skin dry. They aren't a substitute for repositioning and skin checks, but they're a long-standing component of pressure care for at-risk patients.
Can medical sheepskin boots be machine washed?
Yes, unlike our regular sheepskin slippers and boots, the medical versions are made from extended-tanned sheepskin that handles repeated machine washing. Wash at no more than 40C with Woolskin Wool Wash. No enzymes, no bleach. Tumble dry on a cool setting or hang flat. Avoid direct sunlight or radiator heat when drying.
Can they be worn at home, or are they only for hospital use?
They're widely used at home, in care facilities and in hospitals. Many customers buy them for elderly relatives who feel the cold at night, for post-surgery recovery, or simply because no regular slipper fits comfortably over swollen feet or dressings. They aren't designed for outdoor walking, they're for indoor warmth, comfort and protection.
