Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do your wheelchair sheepskin covers fit?
Our wheelchair seat cover and seat pad are sized to fit a standard 18-inch wide wheelchair, which is the most common size in NZ, AU, UK and US. The arm and leg covers are designed to wrap around the wheelchair frame and are held in place by straps, so they fit most standard arm and leg rests.
How does sheepskin make a wheelchair more comfortable?
Standard wheelchair seats and arm rests trap heat and cause sweating, which can lead to discomfort and over time to pressure sores. Medical sheepskin's dense upstanding wool distributes pressure across a wider area, allows air to circulate around the body, and wicks moisture away from the skin. Metal frame parts also become noticeably softer and warmer to touch with sheepskin arm and leg covers fitted.
Can wheelchair sheepskin covers be machine washed?
Yes. They're made from the same extended-tanned medical sheepskin as our bed underlays, so they handle regular machine washing at up to 40C. Use Woolskin Wool Wash, never enzymes or bleach. Tumble dry on cool or hang flat. Daily airing keeps them fresh between full washes.
Will the cover slip out of place during use?
No. Each cover and pad includes straps that secure it to the seat, the backrest or the arm/leg rest of the chair. Once strapped on, the cover stays where it's placed even with regular transfers in and out of the chair.
Does sheepskin actually reduce pressure sores in wheelchair users?
Research links medical-grade sheepskin with fewer pressure ulcers (Cochrane review, McInnes 2011). The upstanding wool fibres redistribute pressure across a wider surface area, wool absorbs moisture before it sits against the skin, and the natural fibre lets heat dissipate. Sheepskin is not a substitute for repositioning and skin assessment in high-risk patients, but it's widely used alongside other care.

Comfort, Support & Pressure Relief for Everyday Wheelchair Use

Our wheelchair sheepskin range is thoughtfully designed to enhance comfort across all key contact points, including seat pads, full covers and armrest protectors.

The dense, natural wool fibres help distribute pressure more evenly, reducing discomfort during extended periods of sitting. Breathable and moisture-wicking, sheepskin keeps skin dry and helps regulate temperature throughout the day, making it ideal for long-term wheelchair use.

Each piece is versatile and easy to transfer between chairs, with practical fastenings to keep everything securely in place. Whether for daily use at home or on the go, sheepskin offers a natural, supportive solution to improve comfort and wellbeing.
