Why Choose a Sheepskin Throw for Your Recliner?

Turn your favourite recliner or armchair into an incredibly soft and comfortable place to relax with our Classic Premium 1.5-Pelt Sheepskin Recliner Throw.

At approximately 137 cm (53.9 in.) long, its extended natural shape makes it particularly well suited to recliners and armchairs. It provides more coverage than a traditional single sheepskin without the additional size and bulk of a full Double-Pelt Rug.

Drape it over your favourite recliner, reading chair or armchair to add a wonderfully soft natural layer between you and the chair. It's particularly luxurious over leather, while also adding warmth and comfort to fabric upholstery.

And it's not limited to chairs. The versatile 1.5-pelt size also looks beautiful draped across a sofa, bench or the end of a bed.

Premium New Zealand Sheepskin

Made from premium New Zealand-grown sheepskin, each throw is carefully selected for its wool density, softness, length and overall appearance.

The sheepskins are tanned and the finished rugs are crafted in New Zealand using a gentle tanning process without harsh chemicals, helping preserve the natural softness, lustre and character of the wool.

The result is luxuriously soft long wool that feels wonderful against the body while bringing the unmistakable warmth and texture of genuine sheepskin into your home.

Naturally Comfortable in Every Season

Genuine sheepskin isn't only about warmth. Wool is naturally breathable and helps regulate temperature, making your recliner more comfortable throughout the year.

During colder months, the dense wool creates a wonderfully warm and cosy surface. During warmer weather, the natural breathability of wool helps prevent the hot, sticky feeling often associated with sitting directly against leather or synthetic upholstery.

Choose Your Sheepskin Colour

Available in Ivory White, Honey, Grey, Chocolate and Black.

Ivory White – Our lightest shade, retaining the natural creamy-white colouring of genuine sheepskin rather than a bright artificial white.

Honey – A warm golden shade that pairs beautifully with leather, timber and traditional interiors.

Grey – A versatile medium grey that works particularly well with contemporary and neutral interiors.

Chocolate – A rich, deep brown that adds natural warmth and complements leather furniture beautifully.

Black – A bold, sophisticated option that works particularly well with modern interiors and lighter furnishings.

Because genuine sheepskin is a natural product, no two throws are exactly alike. Small variations in natural shape, wool length, texture and colour are part of the authentic character of every sheepskin.

Size & Dimensions

Our 1.5-Pelt Sheepskin Recliner Throw measures approximately:

137 cm (53.9 in.) long

The additional length compared with a traditional single sheepskin makes it an excellent choice for draping over the seat and back of a recliner or armchair.

As every genuine sheepskin is naturally shaped, individual dimensions may vary slightly.

New Zealand Grown, Crafted & Owned

Our sheepskins originate from New Zealand-grown sheep and are a natural by-product of New Zealand's farming industry.

Rather than allowing this valuable natural material to go to waste, carefully selected pelts are transformed into beautiful, long-lasting products.

From the sheepskins themselves through to tanning and crafting the finished rug, our Classic Premium range celebrates genuine New Zealand sheepskin and craftsmanship.

Caring for Your Sheepskin Recliner Throw

Regular Care: Brush your sheepskin regularly with a sheepskin care brush to lift and separate the wool fibres and help prevent matting. This is particularly useful on a recliner or armchair where areas supporting your head, back and arms experience regular contact.

Spot Cleaning: Attend to spills promptly using cold or lukewarm water and a detergent specifically suitable for wool or sheepskin. Blot gently rather than rubbing vigorously and avoid unnecessarily soaking the leather beneath the wool.

Washing: Genuine sheepskin can be washed when required using a detergent specifically suitable for sheepskin. Always follow the care instructions supplied with your rug and allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat.

What to Avoid: Do not use hot water, bleach, fabric softeners or conventional detergents containing enzymes. Avoid tumble drying and keep wet or damp sheepskin away from radiators, heaters and other sources of direct heat.

Regular brushing and simple care will help your New Zealand sheepskin recliner throw retain its beautiful softness and luxurious wool finish for many years.

Shipping & Delivery

We ship our genuine New Zealand sheepskin products to customers throughout New Zealand, the United States and worldwide.

Your Sheepskin Recliner Throw will be carefully packed for its journey. The wool may appear slightly compressed when first unpacked, particularly after international shipping. This is completely normal.

Give your sheepskin a gentle shake and brush through the wool with a sheepskin care brush to help restore its natural loft. The wool will continue to relax and regain its beautifully soft appearance after unpacking.

Once your order has been dispatched, we'll email you the tracking details so you can follow its journey.

Make Your Favourite Chair Even More Comfortable

Sometimes the simplest additions make the biggest difference.

Whether you use it on a leather recliner, favourite armchair, reading chair or rocking chair, the natural softness of genuine sheepskin creates an inviting place to sit back and relax.

With its generous 1.5-pelt length, luxuriously soft long wool and genuine New Zealand craftsmanship, it's a simple way to transform the chair you already love into an even more comfortable place to spend your time.

Sheepskin Rug Care

Keep your sheepskin soft and fresh with simple regular care.

Routine maintenance

Shake out your rug every couple of weeks and give it a gentle brush once or twice a month using a slicker or Bowron Care Brush. This keeps the fibres fluffy and removes dust in just a minute or two.

Spot cleaning

For small marks, use cold water and a natural soap or Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Dampen a soft scrub brush, apply a little soap, and gently work the area until clean. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and blot dry. Hang in the shade and allow it to air dry - never use direct heat or sunlight.

Deep cleaning

Hand wash only when needed using cold water and Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Avoid machine washing, bleach, or hot water as these can damage the leather backing.

Freshen up

To absorb odours or moisture, sprinkle baking soda onto the wool, leave for about an hour, then brush or vacuum it out.

With regular brushing and gentle care, your sheepskin rug will stay beautifully soft for years. Learn more on how to care for your wool rug with our care guide.

Sheepskin Recliner Throw | Premium New Zealand Sheepskin FAQs

Will a sheepskin throw slide off a leather recliner?
Genuine wool has natural grip against most fabric and leather surfaces and generally stays put through normal use. On very smooth or reclined leather, tucking the top edge behind the headrest cushion or adding a thin non-slip rug pad underneath will keep it fully secure.
Is it comfortable to sit on a sheepskin rug for long periods?
Yes. Sitting on Kiwi Sheepskins Premium Sheepskin Rug can be comfortable for extended periods because wool naturally regulates temperature and reduces pressure, making it suitable for reading chairs or home office seating.
Can this rug be used in a bedroom or living room?
Absolutely. Kiwi Sheepskins Premium Sheepskin Rug is commonly used beside beds, under coffee tables, or as a feature rug in living rooms where softness, warmth, and natural texture are desired.
Will this sheepskin rug fit over a recliner chair?
Yes. At 137cm (53.9 inches) long, the 1.5 pelt size is long enough to drape fully over the back and arms of most recliners and armchairs — longer than a single pelt, and less bulky than a full double.
What size sheepskin throw do I need for a recliner or armchair?
For most recliners and armchairs, the 1.5 pelt (137cm or 53.9in.) is the sweet spot. A single pelt often falls short of covering the full backrest, while a double pelt can be more fabric than a chair-sized throw needs.
Is this a genuine sheepskin, or synthetic/faux?
100% genuine, premium-grade New Zealand sheepskin — not a synthetic or faux fur alternative.
Can I wash a sheepskin recliner throw at home?
Yes. This rug is fully washable, either by hand or on a wool-safe cold machine cycle with Wool Wash. Avoid hot water, bleach, and harsh detergents, which can damage the natural wool fibers.
How do I stop my sheepskin throw from bunching up on the chair?
Brush it regularly to keep the wool lying flat, and reposition it fully over the chair back and arms after use rather than leaving it pushed to one side — this also helps it wear evenly.
