Why Choose a Single Sheepskin Rug?

Our Classic 5-Star XL Single Sheepskin Rugs are carefully selected for their generous size, beautifully soft long wool and premium quality. The classic natural shape makes this one of the most versatile ways to enjoy genuine New Zealand sheepskin in your home.

Perfect beside the bed, in front of a favourite chair, draped over an armchair or sofa, or simply as a luxurious accent on the floor, a single sheepskin instantly adds natural warmth, softness and texture to a room.

Its manageable size also makes it easy to move around your home, allowing you to enjoy the comfort of genuine sheepskin wherever you need it.

Premium 5-Star XL New Zealand Sheepskin

Our 5-Star XL grade is selected for its generous size, dense wool, softness and overall appearance. Each sheepskin is individually inspected so that only premium pelts are chosen for this range.

The sheepskins come from New Zealand-grown sheep and are tanned and finished in New Zealand at one of the few remaining woolskin tanneries in Australasia.

A gentle tanning process without harsh chemicals helps preserve the natural softness, lustre and character of the wool, creating a beautifully supple sheepskin that feels wonderfully soft underfoot or against the body.

Choose Your Sheepskin Colour

Available in Ivory White, Honey, Grey, Chocolate and Black.

Ivory White – Our lightest option. This is the natural creamy-white colouring of genuine sheepskin rather than a bright artificial white, so subtle cream and ivory undertones are part of its authentic character.

Honey – A warm golden shade that pairs beautifully with timber, leather and natural interiors.

Grey – A versatile medium grey that works particularly well with contemporary and neutral colour palettes.

Chocolate – A rich, deep brown that brings warmth and depth to a room.

Black – A bold and sophisticated option that creates a striking contrast against lighter floors and furnishings.

Because genuine sheepskin is a natural product, every rug is unique. Small variations in natural shape, wool length, texture and colour are completely normal and part of the character of genuine sheepskin.

A Versatile Natural Sheepskin Rug

One of the great advantages of a Single Sheepskin Rug is its versatility.

Use it as a soft rug beside your bed so your feet meet warm wool in the morning, place it beside a sofa or fireplace, or drape it over a chair to create an inviting place to relax.

It can also be moved easily between rooms as your needs change, making it a simple way to introduce the natural beauty and comfort of New Zealand sheepskin throughout your home.

Naturally Comfortable Year-Round

Genuine wool is naturally insulating and breathable, helping create a comfortable surface throughout the seasons.

In colder weather, the dense wool provides wonderful warmth and insulation. During warmer months, wool's natural breathability helps regulate temperature, making genuine sheepskin much more than simply a winter product.

Caring for Your Single Sheepskin Rug

Regular Care: Give your sheepskin an occasional shake and brush it regularly with a sheepskin care brush. This helps lift and separate the wool fibres, maintain their natural softness and reduce matting.

Vacuuming: Loose dust and debris can be removed carefully using a vacuum cleaner on a low-suction setting. Avoid aggressive rotating brushes that may pull at the wool.

Spot Cleaning: Attend to spills promptly using cold or lukewarm water and a detergent specifically suitable for wool or sheepskin. Blot gently rather than rubbing vigorously and avoid unnecessarily soaking the leather beneath the wool.

Washing: Genuine sheepskin can be washed when required using a detergent specifically suitable for sheepskin. Always follow the care instructions supplied with your rug and allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat.

What to Avoid: Do not use hot water, bleach, fabric softeners or conventional detergents containing enzymes. Avoid tumble drying and keep wet or damp sheepskin away from radiators, heaters and other sources of direct heat.

With simple regular care, your New Zealand sheepskin rug can retain its beautiful softness, natural character and luxurious wool finish for many years.

In Stock & Ready to Order

Our Classic 5-Star XL Single Sheepskin Rugs are held in stock and ready to order, so there is no made-to-order production time required.

Each sheepskin is carefully packed for its journey. The wool may appear slightly compressed when first unpacked, particularly after international shipping. This is completely normal.

Give your rug a gentle shake and brush through the wool with a sheepskin care brush to help restore its natural loft. The wool will continue to relax and regain its beautifully soft appearance after unpacking.

Once your order has been dispatched, we'll email you the tracking details so you can follow its journey.

Whether used on the floor, beside your bed or draped over your favourite furniture, its premium long wool and distinctive natural shape bring warmth, texture and genuine New Zealand character into your home.

Sheepskin Rug Care

Keep your sheepskin soft and fresh with simple regular care.

Routine maintenance

Shake out your rug every couple of weeks and give it a gentle brush once or twice a month using a slicker or Bowron Care Brush. This keeps the fibres fluffy and removes dust in just a minute or two.

Spot cleaning

For small marks, use cold water and a natural soap or Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Dampen a soft scrub brush, apply a little soap, and gently work the area until clean. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and blot dry. Hang in the shade and allow it to air dry - never use direct heat or sunlight.

Deep cleaning

Hand wash only when needed using cold water and Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Avoid machine washing, bleach, or hot water as these can damage the leather backing.

Freshen up

To absorb odours or moisture, sprinkle baking soda onto the wool, leave for about an hour, then brush or vacuum it out.

With regular brushing and gentle care, your sheepskin rug will stay beautifully soft for years. Learn more on how to care for your wool rug with our care guide.

Single Sheepskin Rug | Premium New Zealand Sheepskin FAQs

Is it comfortable to sit on a sheepskin rug for long periods?
Yes. Sitting on Kiwi Sheepskins Premium Sheepskin Rug can be comfortable for extended periods because wool naturally regulates temperature and reduces pressure, making it suitable for reading chairs or home office seating.
Can this rug help keep rooms warmer?
Yes. Wool is a natural insulator, and Kiwi Sheepskins Premium Sheepskin Rug helps retain warmth, making rooms feel cosier especially during colder months.
Can I wash my sheepskin rug in a washing machine?
Most natural wool sheepskin rugs including premium grade ones should not be put in a regular washing machine because agitation and heat can damage the leather backing and matt the wool fibres. Hand washing in cool water with a wool-safe shampoo is generally recommended for deep cleaning. If machine washing is considered at all, only do so on a delicate wool cycle inside a protective laundry bag and check any care instructions first.
