Product Information

Only the finest New Zealand sheepskins are expertly crafted into these multi-pelt rectangle rugs, available in eight sizes ranging from 4 to 16 pelts. Each rug is carefully selected, matched, trimmed, and sewn to create a seamless and elegant design.

These rugs feature luxuriously soft, long, and dense wool pile combined with supple, durable leather that offers both strength and flexibility. A natural tanning process preserves the wool’s creamy ivory-white tone, closely reflecting the sheep’s original colour.

The rugs come in a variety of shades including ivory white, black, brown tip, grey tip, honey, chocolate, and grey.

Due to the natural absorption properties of wool, exact uniformity in tip coloration cannot be guaranteed, and some tip-dyed rugs may appear darker than others.

Additionally, colours may vary slightly from images because of the dyeing process and photographic lighting conditions. Typical dimensions for the rectangle long wool sheepskin rugs include: 4-pelt (150 x 94 cm), 6-pelt (150 x 140 cm), 8-pelt (150 x 186 cm), 10-pelt (150 x 234 cm), 12-pelt (150 x 279 cm), and a wide 12-pelt option (222 x 184 cm), providing versatile choices to suit various interior spaces.

These rugs combine natural beauty with expert craftsmanship, offering a timeless addition to any home.

Only the very best New Zealand sheepskins are used to craft these multi-pelt sheepskin rugs in 8 rectangle sizes from 4 to 16 pelts, carefully selected, matched, trimmed and sewn together to form a masterpiece.

Sheepskin Rug Care

Keep your sheepskin soft and fresh with simple regular care.

Routine maintenance

Shake out your rug every couple of weeks and give it a gentle brush once or twice a month using a slicker or Bowron Care Brush. This keeps the fibres fluffy and removes dust in just a minute or two.

Spot cleaning

For small marks, use cold water and a natural soap or Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Dampen a soft scrub brush, apply a little soap, and gently work the area until clean. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and blot dry. Hang in the shade and allow it to air dry - never use direct heat or sunlight.

Deep cleaning

Hand wash only when needed using cold water and Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Avoid machine washing, bleach, or hot water as these can damage the leather backing.

Freshen up

To absorb odours or moisture, sprinkle baking soda onto the wool, leave for about an hour, then brush or vacuum it out.

With regular brushing and gentle care, your sheepskin rug will stay beautifully soft for years. Learn more on how to care for your wool rug with our care guide.

Classic Rectangle Sheepskin Rugs FAQs

What sizes do designer rectangle sheepskin rugs come in?
Rectangle rugs range from smaller accent sizes through to larger area rugs sized to fit Single, Double, Queen, King and Super King beds, plus furniture and floor placements. Each product page lists the exact dimensions. The neat geometric shape works well under coffee tables, at the foot of a bed or as a throw across an armchair.
Who makes your designer sheepskin rugs?
Our rectangle rugs are tanned and handcrafted by Classic Sheepskins of Napier, in New Zealand's Hawke's Bay. They use only natural processes, free from harsh chemicals, which is why the finished wool feels soft and skin-safe rather than chemically stiff.
What's the difference between natural shape rugs and rectangle (designer) rugs?
Natural shape rugs keep the original outline of the pelt, so a single-pelt rug is shaped like the sheepskin itself, and multi-pelt rugs (double, quad, octuple) have the curved, organic silhouette of joined pelts. Rectangle designer rugs are cut and pieced into tidy geometric shapes, cleaner lines for under furniture or on beds, while still being made from genuine sheepskin pelts.
How do I clean a rectangle designer sheepskin rug?
Same care as a natural shape rug. Hand or machine wash smaller rugs in warm water (max 40C) using Woolskin Wool Wash, no enzymes, no bleach. Spin out excess water, then dry flat over several lines and gently reshape while damp. Brush the wool when damp and again when dry. For larger rectangle rugs spot clean with diluted shampoo and a damp cloth.
Will the rug shed and is some loose fibre normal?
A small amount of loose fibre is normal in the first few weeks, it's leftover from the tanning and finishing process. A vigorous shake and a brush with a wool brush sees most of it off quickly. After that, shedding settles right down. White rugs can also yellow slightly with age and direct sunlight, which is natural and irreversible.
