Sheepskin Recliner & Armchair Throw — Classic Premium 1.5 Pelt

Turn your favourite recliner, armchair or reading chair into an exceptionally cozy place to relax with our 1.5-pelt genuine New Zealand sheepskin throw. Measuring approximately 137 cm (53.9 inches) long, it’s an ideal in-between size, longer than a single sheepskin rug and generously sized to drape over a recliner or chair without the extra bulk of a full double pelt.

Made from premium New Zealand sheepskin, each rug is carefully selected for its soft, dense wool and finished using a gentle tanning process that preserves the natural character, breathability and luxurious feel of the fleece.

Choose from Sand, Ivory White, Chocolate, Grey, Honey and Black to complement your chair and home décor.

Perfect for Recliners & Armchairs

Drape it over a favourite recliner to add a wonderfully soft layer between you and leather or fabric upholstery. The generous length provides excellent coverage while allowing the natural shape of your chair to remain visible.

It’s equally at home on a reading chair, rocking chair or armchair, or simply draped across the end of a bed. The dense natural wool provides warmth and cushioning, particularly welcome during cold Canadian winters, while remaining naturally breathable throughout the year.

Why Choose Kiwi Sheepskins?

Premium-Grade Sheepskin: We carefully select our pelts for their wool density, softness and overall quality to create a beautifully comfortable and luxurious finish.

A Natural By-Product: Our sheepskins are sourced as a by-product of New Zealand's farming industry, making use of a natural material that would otherwise go to waste.

New Zealand Grown & Made: From the sheepskin itself through to tanning and finishing, these rugs are proudly produced in New Zealand.

Caring for Your Sheepskin

Routine Care: Regular brushing with a sheepskin care brush helps lift the wool fibres, maintain their softness and reduce matting in higher-contact areas.

Spot Cleaning: For small spills or marks, gently clean the affected area with cold water and a suitable wool or sheepskin detergent. Allow the sheepskin to dry naturally away from direct heat.

Washing: When a deeper clean is needed, follow the care instructions provided with your rug and use a suitable wool-safe or sheepskin wash on a cold, gentle cycle.

Avoid hot water, bleach, harsh detergents and direct heat, as these can damage the wool and leather.

As genuine sheepskin is a natural product, every rug is unique, with small variations in shape, wool texture and colour adding to its individual character.

Sheepskin Rug Care

Keep your sheepskin soft and fresh with simple regular care.

Routine maintenance

Shake out your rug every couple of weeks and give it a gentle brush once or twice a month using a slicker or Bowron Care Brush. This keeps the fibres fluffy and removes dust in just a minute or two.

Spot cleaning

For small marks, use cold water and a natural soap or Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Dampen a soft scrub brush, apply a little soap, and gently work the area until clean. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and blot dry. Hang in the shade and allow it to air dry - never use direct heat or sunlight.

Deep cleaning

Hand wash only when needed using cold water and Woolskin Sheepskin Shampoo. Avoid machine washing, bleach, or hot water as these can damage the leather backing.

Freshen up

To absorb odours or moisture, sprinkle baking soda onto the wool, leave for about an hour, then brush or vacuum it out.

With regular brushing and gentle care, your sheepskin rug will stay beautifully soft for years. Learn more on how to care for your wool rug with our care guide.

New Zealand Sheepskin Recliner Throw – 1.5 Pelt Rug FAQs

Will a sheepskin throw slide off a leather recliner?
Genuine wool has natural grip against most fabric and leather surfaces and generally stays put through normal use. On very smooth or reclined leather, tucking the top edge behind the headrest cushion or adding a thin non-slip rug pad underneath will keep it fully secure.
Is it comfortable to sit on a sheepskin rug for long periods?
Yes. Sitting on Kiwi Sheepskins Premium Sheepskin Rug can be comfortable for extended periods because wool naturally regulates temperature and reduces pressure, making it suitable for reading chairs or home office seating.
Can this rug be used in a bedroom or living room?
Absolutely. Kiwi Sheepskins Premium Sheepskin Rug is commonly used beside beds, under coffee tables, or as a feature rug in living rooms where softness, warmth, and natural texture are desired.
Will this sheepskin rug fit over a recliner chair?
Yes. At 137cm (53.9 inches) long, the 1.5 pelt size is long enough to drape fully over the back and arms of most recliners and armchairs — longer than a single pelt, and less bulky than a full double.
What size sheepskin throw do I need for a recliner or armchair?
For most recliners and armchairs, the 1.5 pelt (137cm or 53.9in.) is the sweet spot. A single pelt often falls short of covering the full backrest, while a double pelt can be more fabric than a chair-sized throw needs.
Is this a genuine sheepskin, or synthetic/faux?
100% genuine, premium-grade New Zealand sheepskin — not a synthetic or faux fur alternative.
Can I wash a sheepskin recliner throw at home?
Yes. This rug is fully washable, either by hand or on a wool-safe cold machine cycle with Wool Wash. Avoid hot water, bleach, and harsh detergents, which can damage the natural wool fibers.
How do I stop my sheepskin throw from bunching up on the chair?
Brush it regularly to keep the wool lying flat, and reposition it fully over the chair back and arms after use rather than leaving it pushed to one side — this also helps it wear evenly.
